We held our annual tournament on Saturday 13th October at Copleston. Although entries were slightly lower than our last tournament in 2005 (I think the final total was 48), many good games were played, the weather was kind, and I think it's fair to say that players and parents enjoyed themselves, and the day went smoothly. The reduction in number did leave us rather squeezed for prize money, however thanks to a Community Champions award from BT, we were still able to award prizes.
We ran the usual sections: Novices, Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, Challengers & Open. Trophies were awarded to the winner in each section, with a separate trophy for the best-performing Ipswich player in each section. Additional trophies were awarded to the Best Performance by a Suffolk U18 Player, and for the Best Suffolk Newcomer. Cash prizes were awarded to the First & Second places in all sections apart from the Novices (where we awarded a cash prize for first place only), 3rd places in the U12, Challengers & Open section. We also awarded slow starter cash prizes in the U12 and Challengers sections.
The U8, U10 and U12 sections require specific points in order to qualify for the London finals in December. Older age groups do not require minimum points, and players may enter the finals with any score.
U8: Oliver Hsieh, James Meakin
U10 Minor: Aabha Khetarpal, Albert Xu
U12 Minor: Daniel Curtis-Brown, Ryan Curtis-Brown, Edward Harker, Laurence Porter
U12 Major: David Redman, Michael Rawson
